Cracks climbing the wall

Cracks that run at an angle or step along the mortar joints of a block wall usually mean the foundation is under stress from soil or settlement. They tend to widen over time and often start letting water through. We seal and reinforce them so they stop moving and stop leaking.

The crack is the symptom. We chase the cause.

Patching a crack without fixing the water or the soil movement behind it just buys a few months. We look for why it's there first.

Good to know

Foundation questions, answered

How do I know if a foundation crack is serious?
Thin vertical hairlines in poured concrete are common and usually cosmetic. The ones worth an inspection are horizontal cracks, stair-step cracks in block, cracks wider than about a quarter inch, or any crack that keeps growing. A free inspection tells you which kind you have before you spend anything.
Do you offer free foundation inspections?
Yes. We come out, look at the wall or floor, measure what's moved, and explain what we see in plain terms. You get a written estimate with the repair options and no pressure to book on the spot.
What causes foundation problems in the Trenton area?
Most of what we see traces back to water and soil movement: clay-heavy soil that swells and shrinks with the seasons, poor drainage against the house, freeze-thaw cycles over the winter, and the older block or stone foundations common in Trenton and Mercer County homes.
Can a bowing basement wall be fixed without replacing it?
Usually, yes. Walls that are bowing but haven't failed can often be stabilized in place with carbon-fiber straps, steel I-beams, or wall anchors, which is far less disruptive than rebuilding the wall. We'll tell you honestly if a wall is too far gone for a stabilization repair.
Is your work guaranteed?
Yes. Our foundation repairs are backed by a written warranty, and many of our stabilization and pier repairs carry a transferable warranty you can pass to a future buyer. We give you the terms in writing with your estimate.
